ANGA - limb
In the context of an oppressive, supremacist patriarchy, the female body continues to be perceived as an object for degradation, seen as something one can cast aside once its spirit is either drained and/or defeated.
ANGA - limb grew out of my reaction to this context. I came across a nude yoga pictoral while flipping through a magazine last year, which depicted nude women in traditionally spiritual poses. I became incensed looking at it, as the piece was clearly exploitative, having as its goal the eliciting of sexual response and, ultimately, using a spiritual outlet to disrespect women.
Immediately, my mind began spinning, reconstructing the images and exploring ways I could use nude yoga poses to convey freedom sought through celebrated, unified body-mind-spirit. The goal was simple: capture the beauty, strength, the lines and spirit of the body transformation through yoga.
